Forget all the other picture, this is THE PICTURE.
"The Gladiators" as it is knows was taken in 1963 after St George had defeated the Western Suburbs Magpies in the Grand Final.
For me, it signifies everything that is great about Rugby League.
Here you have two warriors, two great players, two great leaders. In one of the biggest games of their lives, played in terrible conditions at the Sydney Cricket ground.
Forget the result of the game, after the full time whistle sounds, they are both mates.
This is what Rugby League is all about. You go out, you play your guts out, but after the game you're all mates.
This picture won many awards and was used to create the Winfield Cup, and later, the Telstra Premiership trophy.
Its fitting that this image has been cast in bronze and adorns the trophy all teams fight for over a 30 week season.

An here are those two greats in living colour standing next to the modern day trophy their image adorns.
Norm Provan and Arthur Summons are two of the games greatest captain.
Arthur Summons is one of the few players in Test history that can claim he never lost a Test match with captaining Australia. A great competitor of his time, he came closer then most to ending the St George Dragons record breaking 11 premierships in a row.
Norm Proven won an incredible 10 Grand Finals while playing for the St George Dragons, the last four of which he won as captain/coach of the side!
Its a fitting tribute to both that they are remembered in such a way by the modern day game. Two great players, two great gentlemen.

Well thats not something you see every day!
The first half of the Australia vs U.S.A. Test match in 2004 was one of the most amazing halves of football Ive ever seen.
I think it showed how the Americans approach Rugby League. With their background in American Football they tend to just run hard and fast.
Not all of the Australians took the game to seriously to begin with, but Wayne Bennett soon replaced those players as Australia were handed their own arse's in the first half.
Of course, you cant keep a good team down and the Australian side fought back and beat the U.S.A. in what would have been the biggest upset in sporting history.
On a related note, how about these type of goal posts? Should we use then in Rugby League all the time?

The Melbourne Storm cop a lot of flake because of the grapple tackle.
Some people believe they are coached to use the now illegal move.
If that wasn't bad enough, now they are getting in on the whole witchcraft thing as seen here during levitation practice.
